Please enjoy my little tongue in cheek....
Last week, Sybren and I drove into Brenham to vote early. Our choice on the ballot was between a Celebrated Communist and an Evil Fascist Authoritarian.
When we finished voting, we walked back to our truck that was parked across Main Street.
We jaywalked.
I looked around checking to see if we were going to be arrested. “Whew, we made it!” I thought back to our trip to Czechoslovakia in 1984 when we were standing in our hotel window and watched two police officers haul off a jaywalker on the street in handcuffs. Czechoslovakia was a Communist country, a satellite of the Soviet Union.
Then we turned on the radio to listen to the state-authorized media and learned that the Evil Fascist Authoritarian had ridden in a garbage truck in order to embarrass Celebrated Communist. Her boss had called half the country “garbage.” This happened after the Evil Fascist Authoritarian served French fries at McDonalds for 20 minutes to help the folks.
That night we sneaked into our Ford truck to attend a church function. We had just read that Ford Motor Company announced a new patent which would allow them to sell data from our car to police departments.
Well, why would they do that? For the money. Ford sees a new easy avenue stream. Soon police will be able to write speeding tickets based on your own vehicle’s transmitted driving reports. In other words, nab you electronically and fine you. Isn’t that great?
On a serious note, Sybren and I used to be in the automotive repair industry, so these stories stand out. The Kill Switch law was embedded in the 2021 Infrastructure Bill. It allows the manufacturer to listen to your car, to monitor your eyes, and to track all of your information. But don’t worry, it’s not mandatory in vehicles until 2026. 1
Back to tongue in cheek.
Meanwhile, we headed to our church way out in the middle of nowhere to watch what the Celebrated Communist might consider a “dangerous” movie about the revolutionary of all revolutionaries: Martin Luther, the man of such deep Christian faith whose concern over a corrupt church launched the Protestant Reformation.
Luckily, we are not in N. Korea yet where just owning a small bible can get you arrested and jailed. But even now in the age of soft tyranny, going to church makes you an enemy of the Celebrated Communist who visited the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse telling Jesus lovers that “they were in the wrong rally.”
On Thursday, we learned that the Celebrated Communist’s administration had recently revised a military policy in a way that would allow the Secretary of Defense to authorize lethal force against protesting Americans. See Department of Defense Directive 5240.01. 2 We are told it’s obscure, so don’t worry, it’s not anything to be concerned about.
End of tongue-in-cheek.
The noose of tyranny is tightening.
Carl Friedrich and Zbigniew Brzezinski, Harvard political scientists, wrote about totalitarian tyranny in 1965. They defined what I have just portrayed. I have put their definition into my own words.
1. A single political party led by “a dictator.” The party infuses its doctrine into all aspects of society.
2. The Party controls all law enforcement, bureaucracy, intelligence, and military operations in the nation and creates fear or even terror over the nation.
3. The Party controls the mass media, turning it into its propaganda arm.
4. The Party declares itself the enemy of religion and will persuade or coerce churches and clergy to collaborate with the Party goals.
5. The Party exerts control over all businesses and manages the economy.
6. The Party maintains control of weapons and arms.
In their writings they used the word ideology in which I substituted the word Party.
Of course what Friedrich and Brzezinski describe are governments under the old Soviet Union and its 14 surrounding countries.
But today this definition applies to Russia, Iran, China, N. Korea, Venezuela, Vietnam, Cambodia, Nicaragua, and Cuba. Furthermore, many countries are kowtowing to CCP influence. Among these are Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and several countries in South America. Furthermore, Russia is also spreading its influence into South America, Africa, and the Middle East.
So, we see organized major Socialist - Communist parties in countries like Mexico, Canada, and Brazil, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, and the list is growing annually. Sadly, they are winning elections.
Let me end with this.
In 1834, Alexis de Tocqueville wrote these words.
“The Anglo-American relies upon personal interest to accomplish his ends and gives free scope to the unguided strength and common sense of the people; the Russian centers all the authority of society in a single arm. The principal instrument of the former is freedom; of the latter, servitude. Their starting point is different, and their courses are not the same; yet each of them seems marked out by the will of Heaven to sway the destinies of half the globe.”
Of course, when de Tocqueville wrote this, Russia was a totalitarian monarchy, not a Communist country.
What de Tocqueville found out about America surprised him. He had come here initially to observe our prison system and instead fell in love with our culture and travelled to study the entire country and document what he learned. He was most impressed with the influence of the Christian Church on the American culture.
The good news is that the UniParty has not completely accomplished its goals. Our devotion to the Bill of Rights and Constitution has safeguarded our rights to self-defense and to own property, but we would have to be willfully blind not to see the dangers.
I want to believe that our devotion to Christianity, thanks to people like Martin Luther, has created a nation of self-governing men and women who are spurred by faith to produce, to work hard, and to dream and never give in to tyranny.
In the words of 17th century American preacher Jonathan Mayhew, “Resistance to tyranny is obedience to God.”

This revision of Department of Defense policy is controversial. Consider these three sources. First, is the DOD policy itself. https://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodd/524001p.PDF?ver=UpTwJ66AyyBgvy7wFyTGbA%3d%3d ... Next, here's a post shared by General Michael Flynn who believes that the DOD revision is a threat and not "confidence-inspiring." https://thewarhorse.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot-2024-10-17-at-9.02.56%E2%80%AFPM.png Finally, this article says all of our concerns are much ado about nothing. https://thewarhorse.org/far-right-misinformation-military-policy-lethal-force/ .
